Everyone deserves a home. Housing is a fundamental human right that underpins our health, economic stability, educational outcomes, and social mobility.

Our healthcare system is broken, and puts profits and corporations above people.  In the richest country in the world, medical debt is the leading cause of bankruptcy because costs are too high. And our health outcomes are much worse than those of comparably developed countries.

I know how important protecting a woman's right to choose is because when I needed to, I was able to make the choice to have an abortion. Since then, I’ve worked to expand reproductive freedom, helping our local Planned Parenthood become the first in the country to offer medication abortion. In Congress, I will always stand up to Republicans' extreme attempts to ban abortion.

Right now, our economy works for the wealthy few and corporations at the expense of the middle class and poor. I'm committed to working towards a vision where families in America can not only survive, but thrive.

As an immigrant myself, I know the immense contributions immigrants make to this country - economically, culturally, and socially. We must create an immigration system that puts fairness, opportunity, and the dignity of immigrants and asylum seekers at the center of any reform. 

I was born in India, and came to the US to go to college when I was 16. My parents didn’t have a lot of money. But what they wanted, more than anything, was for us - me and my sister - to be independent. They believed that an American education was the key to achieving that.

Climate change is both an existential threat and an enormous opportunity. It’s a threat because if we don’t address it, we’re leaving our children a planet that’s literally on fire. And it’s an opportunity because if we do it right, we can get to zero emissions while creating millions of high-quality and sustainable union clean energy jobs.

The health of our democracy is the most important thing we have. Without it, nothing else works. MAGA Republicans are attacking our country at its very core, questioning the validity of our elections, taking us backward on voting rights, and attacking the institutions that protect and preserve our democracy. 

LGBTQI+ people are under attack across the country, with many of these bills targeting transgender youth. It is literally life-threatening, by preventing trans youth from receiving necessary health care. As a parent of a queer person and having another loved one who is trans, it’s devastating - and I see first hand the damage these policies can do to physical and mental health.

Veterans are owed the greatest gratitude that we can give, and Republicans have been pushing to undermine the VA, privatizing the health care of millions of veterans, and cutting services. I’ll fight any attempt to cut services for veterans.

As we push for Medicare for All in the long term, we should make changes to Medicare to help older Americans get the care they need in the short term.

In Congress, I’ll continue the work I’ve done at the county level and push for investments in violence prevention programs, social services,  interventions that prevent crime from happening in the first place, or provide alternative responses to situations that aren’t best addressed by police. 

 The United States has a crucial role to play in spreading democratic values worldwide, and in creating the conditions for peace and security across the globe.
